Dopplereffekt – “Cellular Automata” – [Leisure System Records]
aarbor 1/22/2025 A Library, CD

Dopplereffekt is the duo of Gerald Donald and Michaela To-Nhan Bertel. (Donald is half of Drexciya with the late James Stinson.) They like being anonymous and sometimes perform wearing masks. Various write ups give different names for them. They are from Detroit and have been active since 1995. Cellular Automata which came out in 2017 was their first release in 10 years. Much of their work is self-released. This is 9 tracks of well thought out sound. Each track has its own personality. It is possible to create music with Cellular Automata. I hope this was created by humans and not AI, but it’s hard to tell. It has a beat but you can’t dance to it. Don’t Miss. AArbor
