Eindhoven 2015 [coll] – [Trouble In Mind]
rduck 11/4/2015 12-inch, A Library
These studio recordings provide a small representation of Eindhoven Psych Lab festival experience.
Clearly psych rock, there are no genre bending risks taken here but a modern assimilation and recapitulation with genuine intention. No irony here.
Guitar driven chords choked, strummed and arpeggiated accompany male/female vocal doubling and harmony with organ providing pedal tone (1,6). Eko teardrop guitars through Vox AC30’s, with enormous spring reverb swells accompany stereo spread vocals (2). Easy going echoes of 50’s lounge with glockenspiel alongside rich evolving synth tones and plucked guitar and bass interplay (3). A narrative story with more glockenspiel (4). Bread bag clips thwack guitar strings through broken speakers driven by germanium fuzz and the damaged reads of pump organs (5) There are requisite dives into glorious sound effect expressions peppered throughout the album but is a real feature of the last track with a hypnotic effect driven trip through chocolate factory tunnels (7).
