Beyond Berkeley Guitar [coll] – [Tompkins Square]
This is a fine sampling of Bay Area acoustic guitarists. Throwing the net a bit wider than that of the 2005 release of “Berkeley Guitar,” Sean Smith and Tompkins Square chose Richard Osborn, Trevor Healy, Chuck Johnson, Sean Smith himself, Lucas Boilon, and Ava Mendoza for this extremely pleasant sound journey. Most of the songs are mellow examples of American Primitive, some compositions using steel string and 12-string, but the icing on the cake is Mendoza’s bluesy genius that leaves you sighing at the end. Yup, the Bay Area has the best musicians in the world.
