Moss, Lawrence – “New Paths” – [Innova/American Composers]
Cousin Mary 2/15/2012 A Library, CD
Composer Lawrence Moss (born 1927 in Los Angeles) has held a number of composition professor positions (including Mills College 1956-1958), has received many commissions, and has been widely performed. This 2-CD set includes recent work for a variety of ensembles from sources such as Emily Dickinson and Chinese poets. Very beautiful modern classical works, some are light hearted, others are unsettling. Quotes include “Sing a song of sixpence” and Taps. Be sure to read liner notes that include clearly stated descriptions of each piece.
