Aggravators, The & Revolutionaries, The – “Guerilla Dub” – [Burning Sounds]
Brian Damage 9/25/2024 12-inch, Reggae

The Aggravators & The Revolutionaries were the names given to a loose aggregation of reggae musicians who functioned as a studio backing band in the 1970s, who included Aston ‘Family Man’ Barrett, Carlton Barrett, Robbie Shakespeare, Sly Dunbar, Ansel Collins, Ossie Hibbert, Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith, Tommy McCook, Cornell Campbell, and Jackie Mittoo.
Guerilla Dub was the name affixed to ten super-chill dub plates recorded by Ossie Hibbert at King Tubby’s Studios in Kingston in 1978. Everything is instrumental, and the name of the album and the song titles were affixed to reflect the moment, when worldwide revolution seemed imminent. Ten dubs by legendary cats? What’s not to love here? 9/10.
