Odyssee – “Arid Fields” – [Autoscopy Records]
Rock Dove 1/24/2024 A Library, CD

Released November 2023. Solo project of Frenchman Edouard Lebrun, also in a math rock band called Jean Jean. This is ambient electronic with a beat, inspired by, composed and recorded in various unspecified American deserts. The fields are arid and there is a sparseness that feels appropriate for a Westerner dwelling in such a landscape, thousands of miles from home, camping out with a bunch of cables and modular synths. Odyssee brings these modules to life. 12 tracks, 3-5 minutes each. No vocals. Nice variety of new-age sounds that are dreamy, moody, and meditative with beats that come and go. Field recordings such as footsteps and insects compliment the crepuscular vibe. There is anxiety, wonder, and revelation in here. I recommend track 9, with a French title that translates to The Crickets of Now.
