Black Tambourine – “Black Tambourine Compilation” – [Slumberland Records]
humana 4/9/2010 12-inch, A Library
Why is it that great bands only last for a year or two? Maybe that’s what makes them great. At any rate, this noise pop band formed in 1989 in Silver Spring, MD,–three guys creating the music and a girl making that music distinctive with her vocals (echoes of which can be heard in the Vivian Girls). This album consists of the garage pop songs they released back in the day, as well as four new songs (B5-B8) recorded in 2009 for what would have been their 20th anniversary. The liner notes are a must-read as you enjoy the haze of this musical keepsake that remains timeless.
