Sinister Sveta – “My Dark Side Is Brighter Than Reality” – [Alamut]

Musique diabolique from Israel; Concrete sound collages of found sounds, rumbling noise drone and what sounds like crackly old vinyl recordings. Too busy and sporadic to fall into any ambient category, but dark indeed (and yes, sinister) yet truly beautiful pieces that creep through layers of subconscious, receding deep into tortured recesses of psychosis and delusion. The melodious samplings of old music only add to the haunting atmosphere, especially the opening Chant, mixing mournful operatic vocals over a collision of industrial clambering. Some tracks deconstruct into sonic subtractions leaving wavering Watery drones with distant sounds, like a gaseous wind blowing through a warped carnival. Ghostly movement and voices seem voyeuristic, like watching a schizophrenic lost in paranoia through a one-way mirror. Subtle disturbances of twisted reality, a phantom Pianist torments your thought patterns with flagellating repetition. The final Opus releases an onslaught of rhythmic digital noise for blood letting catharsis before the pianist returns to lull you towards unconscious drift. Eery and threatening in the most subtle and troublesome way. Don’t worry it’s only temporary.
