Sarasin, Betha & Spoerri, Bruno – “Kunst Am Computer” – [Dead-Cert Home Entertainment]
humana 11/18/2012 12-inch, A Library
I’m really not a mathematician. But this album somehow embodies the equation ax + by + cz + d = 0, and Sarasin (a “theoretical material mechanic” and Spoerri “electronic jazz musician and music technologist”) teamed up in 1982 to create these tracks “using electromagnetically oscillated stainless steel ‘instrument sculptures.'” Side A is pretty experimental sounding, and Side B contains the more melodic pieces that include other instruments such as lyricon, soprano saxophone, and synthesizer. This is classical experimentation at its finest.
