Bulgarian Folk Dances [coll] – [Unknown]
According to KFJC DJ Sal9000, this album came out in the late 1960’s and started the Bulgarian folk dance movement in the 1970’s. The orchestras feature brass and stringed instruments, clarinet, flute, and something that sounds like an accordion. Tunes are upbeat and sprightly, sometimes with a melancholy tinge.
To take one example, there are as many as 100 types of the Bulgarian “horo” dance which may vary between three to seven or eight steps forward and one to five or six steps back. This is related to the Jewish “horah”.
