Off Ramp – “Off Chance ” – [Ramp Records]
Thurston Hunger 10/1/2005 A Library, CD
Bay Area improv, Tom Nunn infamous progenitor
and purveyor of Bugs, Bats, Rays, and even
Crustaceans (names of homemade electroacoutic
instruments) joined by Jim Hearon on electric
violin and Doug Carrol on a Venutian cello.
Music definitely not of this earth, very tense
Insect gamelan scrape laser-feeding suspense.
Brownian percussion…drifts in and out…the
FrankenStringers go from arcing and sizzling,
to droning or even at some times revealing
their more classical genetic underpinnings.
But this is a release about metamorphosis.
Edgy, eruptive, not for all..just you.
