Cusack, Peter/Collins, Nicolas – “A Host, of Golden Daffodils ” – [Plate Lunch]
Thurston Hunger 10/1/2005 A Library, CD
’96 organic/inorganic acoustic/digital live
outings. Sound escapes! Expansive collage.
Collins (tutored by David Tudor) is the
robot, Cusack counters as whistling(!) human.
Their offspring is like a less compulsive-
explosive Ground Zero. Samples flourish
for just the right time, the soundshapes
shift frequently, lots of fine headphonery.
Live accompaniement gives this a nice body.
Bouzoki/guitar in force field of electronics
plus tampered CD play could be excerpted to
fit in spots…or perhaps tampered further?
The last track scans more as a song, a
somber one, a nomad guitar wanders into
town, gets drunk…here’s a whistle coming
from the electronic river…and…then..
well, listen and see for yourself.
