Mirra, Helen – “Field Geometry ” – [Explain]

Thurston Hunger   10/1/2005   A Library, CD

Her 10″ was adrift in textures, lost at sea.
Here she’s Helen of Toy…performing in a
mentally gifted minor key. Treated guitar,
played w/ objects from an 1865 Milton Bradley
game set of “gifts” (check the liner notes).
Fred Lonberg-Holm is her playmate here…they
are NOT ritalin kids, this is subdued, & fits
like the oldest sweater in your drawer. Comfy,
stretches some…not too flashy…fraying.
While her 10″ had the rattling of a ship’s
hatches, this has smaller yet similar sounds,
like dice in a box, pennies dropped in wooden
bottles, Slinky recoiling strings. With a
Chicago vibe akin to that which blanketed the
Dutch Harbor sdtk. Ages 1-100.
