Eicher, Stephan – “Spielt Noise Boys” – [Born Bad]

Thurston Hunger   6/20/2012   A Library, CD

Once upon a time this was a rare 7″, now 32 years later, the only drag is they only had two bonus tracks from the original cassette to add. Yes it has a song called “Disco Mania” on it, but don’t fret your feathered hairdo, this is not Giorgio Moroder’s long lost twin. Instead Swiss synthesist Stephan Eicher delivers early synth proto-punk. As gripping as a panic attack, the BPM of the drum machines is a little too twitchy for pretty people, the squelch on the keys is too sharp, but it’s gonna take a Tubeway Army to keep KFJC from playing the laser pits right out of these amped up, broken english, glitchy patch chord, little bitwise ditties. Check out the hyper faux wurlitzer spritzing the “Sweet Jane” cover, but make sure to hit all the fiery iced-out originals. False endings a plenty on “MiniMiniMiniMinijupe.” KFJC is also lucky to have a related Eicher project, Grauzone, on Swiss Wave The Album, but we do not have any of Glueams with his brother. Maybe the superb Born Bad label will be pulling those together later as well…
