Lacy, Steve and Centazzo, Andrea – “Clangs” – [Ictus]

humana   6/15/2012   CD, Jazz

This is a live recording of a concert in Italy on February 20, 1976. Steve Lacy composed the music and played soprano sax, made bird calls, and manned the pocked synthesizer, and Andrea Centazzo played percussion, drum set, and provided what vocals there are. It’s all very clean, minimal, and enjoyable because of the discrete way the two musicians converse musically. Centazzo’s liner notes explain what you’ll find on this CD: “As hermetic and polite as his music, Steve was the man who, with his phrase ‘play what you feel’ tore down the curtain that separated my technique from my creativity.” Enjoy eavesdropping on this jazz improv conversation.
