Second Stop Is Jupiter: Doo Wop From Saturn and Beyond Vol2 [coll] – [Norton Records]
Cousin Mary 6/8/2012 12-inch, Jazz
Did you know that in the 1950’s Sun Ra helped to shape the doo-wop scene in Chicago? He had his own groups such as the Cosmic Rays and the Nu Sounds and also served as a rehearsal coach for various artists and groups. Music archivist Michael D. Anderson was at one time an Arkestra drummer and has catalogued many of Sun Ra’s tapes; some make up this album. These include some finished tracks and some rather interesting home recordings of rehearsals. Nice soulful vocals and instrumentals and some fun peeks at the work behind the scenes.
