9th Ward Marching Band – “Sneaking Up The Street” – [Rhinestone]
cinder 6/6/2012 12-inch, A Library
You guessed it, an awesome marching band out of New Orleans doing everybody’s favorite cover songs! This is actually a Quintron and Miss Pussycat related project. Quintron acts as drum major, and directs the drum corp, while Eric Belleto conducts the horns. Miss Pussycat is, of course, in the color guard (rifles and all). I admit, I was a part of my High School band (Miss Pussycat style), and also braved the Santa Clara Vanguard one year, so this is an extra awesome treat. There’s something powerful about marching bands – the snare drums tapping in unison like an assault, the horns blasting with every hard earned breath, the colorful military-esque uniforms…. you really have to be dedicated! 9th Ward was started by a group of friends, and only play during the New Orleans Carnival season. Colors are obviously red and white, and they have their uniforms and costumes custom tailored each year – gotta love the kitty cat! This album brings you fun hits, marching band style, of tunes by Ozzy, Thin Lizzy, Blue Oyster Cult, The Animals, and even the Halloween movie theme song. Two original drum cadences on the first side (first track they even mention Q & MP). Super fun with a definite mardi gras-party feel!
