Surizehi, Abdulrahman – “Rakhshani Love Songs and Trance Music From Balochristan” – [Etnisk Musikklub]
Cousin Mary 5/21/2012 CD, International
Balochistan is an Ethnic area that straddles 3 countries: Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan. Currently there is a lot of political strife including murder, torture and kidnapping in this area. Surizehi was born in Iran but moved to Norway in 1987. He plays benju, a keyed dulcimer unique to this region. CD1 is love songs with vocals. CD2 is trance music which is minimal, repetitive, which builds to a climax. Very beautiful, intense, and unique.
