Mucca Pazza – “Safety Fifth” – [Electric Cowbell]
mickeyslim 5/16/2012 A Library, CD
Yet another great release from Electric Cowbell featuring self proclaimed “freaks” Gary Kalar (mandolin), Greg Hirte (violin), Ronnie Kuller (accordion), and Jeff Thomas (guitar) playing over a 27 peice marching band and 6 cheerleaders. They describe thier sound as a “circus punk marching band,” and I understand it all but the punk. They sound like the Rebirth Brass Band if they were all acid-heads. Their name means “crazy cow” in Italian.
The band is from the U.S., but has a kind of Mediterranean sound, and very waltzy at points. This could be the soundtrack to some animated movie for adults, or late-night T.V. cartoon. This had me moving my feet, shufflin and grooving. Throw in the CD and turn that shit up…
