Ethel – “Heavy” – [Innova/American Composers]
humana 5/1/2012 7-inch, A Library
This is a wonderful offering of post-classical works from this New York City-based string quartet. The edgy music, commissioned from New York City composers, celebrates Ethel’s 14-year tenure in the Big Apple. Anyone who enjoys the myriad ways violins, viola, and cello can race each other in a complicated conversation will find this a treat. Try out 11, 6, and 8.
