Kihnoua – “Sybil’s Whisper, The” – [Metalanguage]
Cousin Mary 4/18/2012 CD, Jazz
The word Kihnoua comes from Greek for “difference” and might refer to this group’s combination of ancient Korean singing and modern jazz improvisation. Based in San Francisco, a jazz ensemble with Larry Ochs on sax, Wilbert Dejoode on Bass, Scott Amendola on percussion and electronics combines with vocals from Dohee Lee. Very original sound – I found the vocals unsettling as well as beautiful, very unusual to my ears.
PGM: Vocals on all tracks, although not until around 8:30 on track 4.
