Samartzis, Philip / Muller, Gunter / Voice Crack – “Wireless_Within” – [For 4 Ears Records]

cinder   2/16/2012   A Library, CD

Environments, electronics, and percussions. A group of 4, recorded in 2002. It’s almost like a field recording of the future. There’s buzzing of electronic flies, songs of crickets and hums and drones of steel air. Experimentation of drones and sounds. Never a dull moment, always teasing the paranoid brain. A chilling, icy feel. Desolate and schizophrenic. Lots of sweat, cold breath and flesh eating roaches would make a nice visual for this, flashing between dead black screens. The first track is more minimal and sparse, the second hass all sorts of twisting and surprise attacks, the final has some very high pitched tones – great for headaches! Voice Crack, Swiss, were an electronic free improvisation group formed in ’72, now disbanded. Samartzis teaches Sound Culture at RMIT University. Muller, living in Switzerland, created an unique drum set up that let percussion to be modulated electronically. He now mostly uses ipods and minidiscs when he performs.
