Mallard, The – “Yes On Blood” – [Castle Face Records]

Thurston Hunger   2/15/2012   A Library, CD

Hot on the heels of their lovely flexi-disc book (ed: somewhat
underplayed he mutters under breath and looks at his
fellow DJ’s) Castle Face extracts some of the DNA that
triggers Oh Seeizures out of Fresno, and spins it into
this sweet pop Friscodisc with plenty of sour to please the
KFJC palate. Echoplex fulminations, those shouty octave
vocals that go past tone-def into more tone-defying bliss.
It’s all about the frantic in your antics, whether in
moments that feel like Can guest-starring as the villains
against Adam West’s Batman, or secret Beatles nods, or fake
vinyl warpage on a CD or what. Mastermind mother of the
Mallard, Greer McGettrick’s guitar voice lead the way
with dueling Dylan’s (boy on drums and backup vox, girl
on bass). It’s hard to imagine anyone liking John Dwyer’s
imprint but ducking out on this, that’s 95% compliment.
Bands of a feather, rock together is what I’m saying.
