Soviet Funk Volume 2 [coll] – [Secret Stash]
This is not funk, it is fusion jazz. Think electric piano – Fender Rhodes to be exact, and flute dominating the mix. Think of Chick Corea’s Return to Forever or maybe even Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew from the same era. But this was recorded secretly in the Soviet Union, so it has quite an original sound.
Pavel Sysoyev was a recording engineer in a state run studio who would run late night sessions unknown to the authorities. He now lives in Minnesota near Secret Stash Records which is working through his collection to make releases.
PGM. Side B track 5 is a sax solo.
