Sakata, Akira & Chikamorachi – “Live At Hungry Brain” – [Family Vineyard]

Cousin Mary   12/12/2011   12-inch, Jazz

These three tracks of honking squawking avant-garde jazz were recorded live in Chicago in 2009 when Japanese sax and clarinet player Akira Sakata played with Chris Corsano (drum) and Darin Gray (bass). Very lively and high energy – probably egged on in part by the appreciative audience whose clapping occupies the end of each track.

Track 1 – loud and noisy. Track 2 – Begins in a more contemplative way, ends with rough shouting and singing in Japanese. Track 3 – extended bass solo, great stuff that ends with more than one minute of applause and band members introductions.
