Endangered Blood – “Endangered Blood” – [Skirl]
Cousin Mary 11/6/2011 CD, Jazz
Fine work from this jazz quartet – drums, bass, tenor sax, alto sax or bass clarinet – all with interesting solos. Great interplay, satisfying harmonics, and lush sonority make for a substantial cut above the aimless noodling that can go for modern jazz these days. Can push it outside, but stays fairly accessible. Compositions by Chris Speed (tenor sax) except for track 3, Monk’s Epistrophy. Recommended!
