Fockewulf 190 – “Microcosmos 82-86” – [Vinyl on Demand]
cinder 10/23/2011 12-inch, A Library
Double LP of recordings from Fockewulf that were intended for their first album. FW is an Italian duo, of Dario Dell’Aere and Victor Life, who started around 1980. Shorter tracks of space synth computer sounds. It all starts with the “One small step…” speech, so you’d think this was a drone record, but it quickly changes. Definitely has a strong 1980s vibe on most tracks (think Human League and a more minimal New Order). As it was described to me, “retro ice cold wave”. A bit 80s goth industrial dance club, with a dash of Suicide meets Bowie (who was an inspiration) vox. Just take a look at their photos on the inside, and you’re instantly at the club. The second LP has a few remixes by the band themselves, and also from ambient, minimal electronic artist, Maurizio Piazza. Those stretch a little past the dark shadows, most having a more upbeat sound. Play this if you’re in the mood for a dark-wave disco party, and don’t forget your black-light.
