Album Review
Sebadoh – “Bakesale” – [Sub Pop Records]
This is garage rock, plain and simple, and I plain and simply love it. The lyrics are at times quite astute, and the vocals are wonderful. Drums are well-done (several drummers on display here), as are guitars and bass. Call me a sucker for a beat and songwriters who love music and try to be profound “You’re so off, you’re on” in 9. Be sure to read the liner notes to get the band members’ take on this slice of their life. Some of the material on the Extras CD (2) is more folk-oriented and acoustic. “Hank Williams” (21) is sinister and weird. Sample for yourself the gems to be found in this release.
