Out of Placerville, California comes the mixed bag of sounds from Daniel Trudeau, aka Pregnant. Side 1 gets my vote with its oceanic themes and hard-to-pin down mixture of electronics, jazziness, and quaint lyricism (read liner notes for lyrics). “Always Ocean w/ U conch” and “Important Clock” stand out for me. Side 2 has a long first track (“Hey Valley”) that contains several smaller episodes of atmospheric loveliness. The final track is a mixture of Steely Dan and Steve Reich (“Steely Reich”).
