Liles, Andrew Remixed By Severin, Steven – “Anal Aura Gram 7″” – [Beta-Lactam Ring Records]

Thurston Hunger   6/1/2011   7-inch, A Library

Evidently inspired by surrealist Hans Bellmer, Andrew Liles initially
fired off his “Aural Anagram” in 2003. Evidently Bellmer’s Dolls,
life-sized balloony images of prepubescent girls were a strike against
the 1920’s German fascistic notions of the perfect body. Although it
seems he had more than a hint of fetishistic fascination with younger
women as well and Bellmer had a notion of the Anagram as well, somehow
rearranging the mutated mannequins see the artwork on this 7″. This
7″, with two remixes by once-Banshee Steven Severin, was created in 2009.
We hear female polygot samples, distant heartbeat drums on the A-side,
and some of the trademark slow curves of Liles drone synth. Sounds like
Japanese on side A and French on side B. As remix and anagram go hand
in hand, it was a nice touch to release this and it heralded Liles
himself being drawn back to the original to create his own remix, for
a full 12″ in (what else?) blue coming to KFJC soon. As eroticism goes,
this is more subtle than most, a tactile buzz of electronic slow shivers.
