De Dionyso, Arrington’s Malaikat Dan Singa – “Suara Naga” – [K Records]
Why do I think of David Bowie as I listen to this CD? Particularly on Track 3. The gamelan-like clanging at the end of 2 and 10 is fitting for these songs penned in Indonesian. It is told that De Dionyso’s Indonesian fan base is growing, but also that the artist can tap into subliminal territories that would be inaccessible through the English language. The dramatic vocal delivery is fascinating in any language, I would guess. This is a fabulous foray into world music, as well as into the eccentric talents of De Dionyso. Every moment is a discovery. Bon voyage!
