Crystal Stilts – “In Love With Oblivion” – [Slumberland Records]
Max Level 4/11/2011 A Library, CD
Trippy psyche sounds by way of jangly guitars, keyboards, and propulsive bass / drums, with a healthy dose of reverb and/or echo on just about everything. Many of the tracks are real rockers. The vocals are sort of monotone and tend to be buried in the mix, which strikes me as a cool approach. If you took a blurry version of the Doors and combined it with the Strawberry Alarm Clock (or maybe it’s the Electric Prunes I’m thinking of), tossed in some of that head-banging psyche that Plastic Crimewave does, and then put them on a dark stage with a swirly light show behind them, you might come up with something close to Crystal Stilts.
