Tamaryn – “Waves, The” – [Mexican Summer]
humana 4/1/2011 12-inch, A Library
This is shoegaze with heavy guitar and downworld, echoey female vocals–kind of murky and dark, but with an edge that keeps it from sinking too deep. Music written by Tamaryn (New Zealand-born, currently of San Francisco) and Rex John Shelverton. ???The Waves??? is a nice entity; ???Haze Interior??? is melancholy and hazy; ???Sandstone??? has nice percussion; ???Dawning??? is pleasantly reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac???s ???Gypsy.??? Watch the blurring segue between A2 and A3–it???s like one continuous song. Otherwise, lean back and let The Waves flow over you.
