Beachkrieg – “Beach Attack” – [Cracked Piston Recordings]
Cousin Mary 3/9/2011 A Library, CD
Beachkrieg is a San Jose garage/surf band whose story is that they are from the 23rd Bavarian Regiment and that it’s 1914. Guitar/organ/drums provide the more-or-less surf tunes, but when Sargeant Pfeffer turns in his guitar for a euphonium the tunes lean more towards polka than surf. Spoken work, other recordings such as radio clips, and war noises like explosions and gun shots add to the pseudo-Germanic effect. Very silly fun.
Notes:Krieg is German for war and is pronounced kreeg. Cracked Piston is former KFJC DJ Big Myke Destiny’s label.
