Honda, Yuka – “Heart Chamber Phantoms” – [Tzadik Oracles]
HackersMuse 3/1/2011 A Library, CD
In Heart Chamber Phantoms, Yuka Honda composes a haunting atmosphere with modern instrumental, jazz-based electronica. Grounded, traditional instruments interweave with beeping noises, aquatic sounds, and ethereal electronics to create a two-song-threads-in-one spirit, most apparent on the standout track, Don’t Be So Naïve. Many tracks offer a relaxing listening experience, with some rousing high points like the escalating instrumental layering on Hydrosphere. My cat responded curiously to the random animal sounds in Waters on Mars, which sets the mood of a Martian menagerie. This album will capture the hearts of you and your alien phantoms.
