Duo Jalal – “A Different World” – [Innova/American Composers]

Cousin Mary   2/5/2011   A Library, CD

Violist Kathryn Lockwood is from Australia, Yousif Sheronick who is a percussionist of Lebanese ancestry is her husband. Duo Jalal is their rhythm and melody duet.

This music straddles the line between contemporary classical and international music. Sheronick uses percussion instruments from around the world. Lockwood’s tone on the viola is varied and rich, occasionally even sounding like a wind instrument.

Composers include jazz bassist John Patitucci, minimalist Phillip Glass, frame drummer Glen Velez (who inspired a John Cage composition), violist and composer Kenji Bunch and others.

Stunning, gorgeous! Another winner from Innova/American Composers.
