Gunn, Steve/ Mcmillen, Shawn David – “End of The City” – [Abaddon Records]
cinder 6/9/2010 12-inch, A Library
A split between Steve Gunn (GHQ) and Shawn David McMillen. Side A from Gunn, displays folkish acoustic guitar work over a mild floating drone. Toss in a shaker, and you have a nice, country side driving song. Almost has an Indian influence to it, especially near the end. Mellow and oh so pretty. McMillens side is way more experimental. A haunting piano plays beside whirling and purring sounds. Halfway through, you get some spoken word low in the mix from Stephanie Demopulos. Droning and chirping electronics. Both sounds very different, and very good!
