Keys, Calvin – “Shawn-Neeq” – [Black Jazz]
Guitarist Calvin Keys was born in Omaha in 1943 and now lives in the East Bay (2010). He has played with most of the jazz organ greats (Jimmy Smith, Groove Holmes, etc.), Ahmad Jamal, Ray Charles, and many many more. Shawn-Neeq was his first album as a lead, recorded in 1971.
Great groove, toe tapping 70’s style funk, solid guitar that is never too showy.
PGM: A “hose-a-phone” is made of some tubing, a funnel, some duct tape, etc.
