Marsala, Joe – “Joe Marsala 1936-1942” – [Classics Records]
Cousin Mary 8/15/2009 CD, Jazz
This CD assembles Joe Marsala???s recordings from 1936 to 1942 — what nowadays we would call traditional jazz. Featured are his wife, jazz harpist Adele Girard (especially on tracks 3, 14, 16, 17), Buddy Rich, Max Kaminsky, a very young Shelley Manne, and many others but the real star is the Marsala???s great clarinet.
Upbeat, cheerful music ??? vocals on 6,7,10,11,12. Track 7 Woo-Woo is a silly novelty tune.
