Album Review
Berman, Josh – “Old Idea” – [Delmark]
Cousin Mary 7/11/2009 CD, Jazz
Chicago improvisers meet for this intricate, textured release. Fine warm cornet from Josh Berman, gorgeous vibes from Jason Adasiewicz, great sax from Keefe Jackson, rhythm from bassist Anton Hatwich and drummer Nori Tanaka.
Notes:
– At Columbia College, Berman met Weasel Walter who encouraged him to play.
– Tanaka had to leave the USA right after this recording due to immigration problems.
– New Year A, B, and C are three different takes of the same thing (What does that mean for improv?)
Satisfying, but low-key.
