The Unit Breed, “Hello Sweet Nothings” – [Self-released]

ophelia necro   1/7/2009   A Library

The Unit Breed is a project of Joseph Demaree with Joe on guitar, vocals, David Wolf on drums and Casey Costello on Bass.?? For the last ten years Joseph Demaree and The Unit Breed have been hard at work. Constantly touring, recording, damaging ear drums and expanding minds across the US and Japan. There is a huge list of previous band members and studio members on their my space page. They recently embarked on an 8 week tour of the U.S. and are now on hiatus. This is a 4 song EP with 2 covers and 2 originals. The covers are Lee Hazelwood’s “Sand” and The Trashmen’s “Surfin’ Bird”, both renditions are a bit twisted,?? I especially like the cover of “Sand” (but really who can go wrong with a Hazelwood cover?) The originals are dreamy, psychedellic numbers, taking influence from “the taste of trees, unyielding light, tigers bellies, desert mountains, upside down submarines, and the ghosts of martyrs”; The Unit Breed has created an unique surreal experience which bends reality, sight and sound. During their live performances they project homemade visuals and have an art show consisting of Joe’s paintings and collage work.
