Map 71 – “Sado-Technical-Exercise” – [Foolproof Projects]

Naysayer   5/1/2016   A Library, CD

I know it upsets the youngins when folks such as me talks about older bands, and i’m tryin’, yep i’m tryin’ real hard to move forward, but it’s just so hard. Like when I first heard Map 71 I automatically thought The Creatures and Death By Chocolate. Look ’em up and learn. Map 71 is two folks, one Lisa Jayne, poet and artist, on vocals and next Andy Pyne on drums and synths. Andy comes from many groups, one being West Hills Blast Quartet. “Sado Technical Exercise” takes the listener through ten pieces of intense vocalization: straight forward stream of conscious/unconscious/whatever monotone declarations of early 21st century angst, fears, frustrations, anger. Try to follow it. You’ll get lost. That’s actually okay. There is so much information coming at you that it will make you have to listen again and again. All the while synths and drums keep the steady, sometimes primitive beat going constant. They don’t overwhelm the vocals. They compliment them perfectly. Siouxsie Sioux and Budgie would be proud.
