Ehlers/Suchy/Hautzinger – “Soundchambers ” – [Staubgold]

Max Level   7/16/2007   A Library, CD

The soundtrack to a multimedia event that took place at a museum in Portugal 2003; something to do with a geometric arrangement of hedges, I kid you not. Ekkehard Ehlers (laptop), Joseph Suchy (guitar, laptop), and Franz Hautzinger (trumpet) are generally laying back here, making ambient-type pieces that I imagine worked pretty well as sonic backgrounds for the multimedia event. It goes beyond that, though: each track offers enough interesting complexity to stand on its own as a listening experience. Typically a piece will have pleasant, inviting trumpet sounds accompanied by quietly burbling guitar lines, while the laptops contribute a wide range of tones, from subtle to quite insistent. Plus recordings of water, and what seem to be birds, insects, etc.
