Parts & Labor – “Escapers One ” – [Broklyn Beats Records]
Max Level 7/4/2007 12-inch, A Library
The power noise rock trio ditches its usual array of instruments for this project, blasting us instead with a set of abrasive, electronic, instrumental pieces. Several of the tracks are loud and unsubtle, full of bleeping and blaring on top of big crunching beats. Not sure if those are all programmed beats or if there’s a real drummer in there sometimes. The other tracks are more textural, and aren’t as overtly beat-heavy. Most of the tracks are on the dense side, and they all sound dirty, like the band found a pile of grimy, dusty old electronic stuff in somebody’s garage and plugged it straight into their amps to see what would happen. Somewhat of a departure for these guys, and from what I understand there is more of this cool noisy electronic material on the way.
