Wooden Wand & The Omen Bones Band – “Horus of The Horizon ” – [Three Lobed Recordings]

Jawbone   6/5/2007   A Library, CD

Wooden Wand is back with an EP of stripped down, straightforward Dylanesque folk with few flourishes. Helped out by Satya Sai (The Vanishing Voice) and Keith Wood (probably not the rugby player), who call themselves The Omen Bones Band on this release, its mostly acoustic guitar and voice:

1. “Wand Arise” (1:56)– A dark hippie love anthem in a minor key.
2. “Son of Wand (Hard Luck Prince)” (5:13)– A dark paean to drugs in same minor key. Includes a “MONKEYSHIT”.
3. “Black Hanna” (2:59)– Features female harmonies and a short, but blazing psychedelic fuzz wah-wah guitar solo. ATTENTION PETE DIXON.
4. “Candace, Queen of Witchcraft” (2:20)– A dark song about minotaurs, centaurs, flowers and witchcraft in a minor key.
5. “Ancestral Mem’ry #4” (3:13)– A wah-wah guitar/ bass jam ala “Maggot Brain”.
6. “War Star Days” (7:53)– A full on Dylanesque autobiographical story song. Its good, though.
