Bruhin, Anton – “11 Heldengesange & 3 Gedichte” – [Alga Marghen]
Cousin Mary 6/17/2015 12-inch, A Library
The title translates as “11 Hero Songs and 3 Poems”. Originally done in 1977, it feature electronic sampling, spoken word on all tracks except the Finale, some bluesy harmonica, trumpet that varies from Renaissance to jazz sound. The spoken word is in German, although the dialects on the Heldengesange are invented as if to be regional. Some manipulated recordings appear, including the bass line from Paul Desmond’s Take Five. Beautifully produced limited edition of 350 copies. Outstanding! It both disturbs and amuses.
