Fecalove – “Filth” – [L.White Records]
Naysayer 5/4/2015 A Library, CD
Fecalove is actually Italian noise composer, visual artist, member of numerous disturbing music projects and co-founder of Turgid Animal record label, Nicola Vinciguerra (last name translating loosely as “win the war”). I purposely asked to review something rough, out of my comfort zone, something to make me cringe. So I was given “Filth” and yet I found this oddly compelling and quite beautiful in its aggressiveness. Lyrically, this is self-loathing all the way, but oddly not for shock value. At least I did not take it that way. Shock value has it’s place, but it is often too easy. This is not easy. But also not that uncommon if you just dig a little. I understand self-loathing but this gets to extreme, De Sade kind of stuff. There is something honorable about being so open about ones own disgust with oneself. Lyrically it is straightforward. To the point. Yet oddly??? well maybe not thoughtful but it made me think. If I ever meet Nicola I think I will give hime a hug.
The music, the noise is stupendous. It does not sound the same. It is layered and rich in it’s soundscape. There are subtle differences, ebb and flows, of course electronic-POWER-in-your-face blasts. But there are organic sounds mixed in as well which work. 52 minutes of a sonic soundscape of hate. I love it.
