Buck Gooter – “Spider’s Eyes, The” – [Feeding Tube Records]

Thurston Hunger   3/7/2015   12-inch, A Library

Chunky blasts of filth rock, top-grade filth rock. Two guys,
one tunnel, into some toxic mine of thriving vitriol, drum
drilling machines and some really pissed off spiders. Oh
yeah, there’s hornet’s nest on the ground, but I wouldn’t
pick it up (see A4). Another hit single for the post-10pm
crowd is “Poodle Wagon/Pink Dye”, I never knew Virginia was
so colorful. At times Billy Brat and Terry Turtle sound like
drunk whalers who were given a Beastie Boys’ cassette which
they both love and loathe. Besides the howling, three shits
to the wind vocals, Mr. Turtle sports a distorto damaged
guitar that could bring 5 Guitar Centers whimpering to their
knees, chomping chords and high end fritz. Mr. Brat opts
for theremin from Zardos (check the global death-ray warming
on “Fun in the Sun”) and industrial pound-for-poundage on
most of the other tracks. I’m still not sure what Buck
Gooter means (possibly a discout sex act?), but after
listening to this heavy hammering lp, I sure as hell know
how it feels.
