Radigue, Eliane – “Feedback Works 1969-1970” – [Alga Marghen]

Thurston Hunger   8/16/2014   12-inch, A Library

The mighty Alga Marghen imprint always bears respect and a
listen. Here we get an early sinewave sister, a cohort of those
crazy and lucky Pierre’s (Henri and Schaeffer), and a self-professed
flirter with sound. Check out the lovingly packaged booklet
(and the lovely photographs, Ms. Radigue was a fetching young
lass in a noisy boys world, is it wrong to say? The pieces
here, feedback in nature as the title says, evolve slowly
and may bear more fruit with either intense listening or
creative combinations on air. “Stress-Osaka” is my pick for
the hit single, with it’s chirpy oiseaux on deeper wave
branches. The side-long “Omnht” had a kind of nasty earworm
repetitive writhe that punctured a hole in my skull, but
maybe such trepanation is right for you. This release
feels more historic than anything else to me, but she is
still alive today and has worked in this millennium
