Ruminator, The – “Ruminator, The” – [Bowels of Lunacy]

Thurston Hunger   8/16/2014   A Library, CD

My kind of surf, with more than a drop of alcohol in the ocean
and it sounds like they’re filming a horror show on the beach
while catching these waves. Of course, there’s plenty of reverb
to stun a stingray, but check out some of the accessories: funeral
violin and black mass drum to open on #1, possible secret
Doctor Who transmission on #4, BBC Radiophonix Phreakout on #8,
Sherilynn Fenn slowdance on #11. You wanna dance? #10 hits

clompers. Seattle spun by Steve Schmitt and friends, who all have

Abramson’s drums on #3 are crisp and punk-tual. All instrumental,
and like in surf music, the notes add up and resolve the way your
granddaddy wants them to, but enough oddball turns along the way
make this a very rewarding listen. The craft and the production on
here is darkly well-detailed. Timba Harris violin on two tracks
is a minor key show stealer. As a rule when sounds emerge from the
Bowels of Lunacy, one should always take notice. If not cover…
